Consumer behavior is a trend that an individual exhibits when making choices of goods and services to consume from a group of alternatives. At the most primary level, it can be explained as the manner in which people choose items to purchase and factors, as well as processes, that compel or motivate them to consume. Satisfaction comes from the direct use of a product or service driving the individual into re-consumption that leads to defined consumption behavior. The following case study is the analysis of three products that I have consumed under strict monitoring to identify those pertinent psychological processes that drive consumption.

 

Make-up

Make-up is something that I love using since it gives me different impressions depending on the theme of the event I am attending. Every moment I go shopping, I have to ensure that I buy something to add to my make-up kit for the sake of matching my dressing with my facial looks. I always feel confident when I am wearing make-up since it gives me an impression of beauty and attractive look keeping people coming closer to me. Natural skin is difficult to manipulate and create an appealing look. However, with make-up, it is possible to give yourself an impression that will make you confident and attractive to other people. The major psychological process involved in driving the consumption of make-up is the feeling of confidence and assurance of beauty in the eyes of those who look at me. I usually get many compliments about my beauty from family and friends. Nevertheless, I am sure it is as a result of my make-up. It works like peer pressure to me since my friends keep encouraging me to use make-up so that I can keep looking good every time. There are numerous types of make-up (depending on their application) offering me a wide range of options whenever I want to make an impression.

Unlike many people who believe that natural beauty is what counts as a real beauty, I have a strong belief that it is not lack of confidence in my natural look that drives me to consumption of make-up. Instead, I believe that I am naturally beautiful. At the same time, I also need to have different looks at different times that can only be possible through the application of make-up. I am psychologically convinced that it gives me a more attractive look than my natural skin since I have been observing the trends. It makes me feel more beautiful, especially when combined with glued eyelashes and a bright shiny lip gloss. The feeling of beauty and confidence and the pressure from friends to keep using make-up drives my emotions whenever I think about them creating the psychological processes behind my consumption behavior. Utilitarianism is the basis of my make-up consumption behavior. It is the feeling of satisfaction that comes from the utility yielded by the make-up products I consume driving me back to use them one more time to have the same feeling.

Wearing clothes is a fundamental and basic need for every human being, but having good and appealing clothes is a matter of choice for satisfaction. There are millions of cloth fashions in the world today, and each of them has been designed following clientele satisfaction and psychological drive for consumption. Since I am a young person, I choose to dress to impress rather than just being covered in clothes that every other person can wear. I am a person who believes that wearing the right size of clothes is the first element of fashion since baggy wears make one look horrible.

The feeling of looking different from others drives my consumption behavior whenever I have a different fashion of clothes. I have to make sure that I do not wear the same thing twice in a week since I wish to taste different types to get various feelings from each of them. However, there are those clothes that I always feel attracted due to the way they make me appear getting into my psychological needs. Clothes are of different classes depending on their use and the purpose they serve whenever they are worn. My age is a fundamental factor that determines my consumption behavior when clothes are put to discussion. I am young and need to appear and feel so every time I am moving out with friends and family. To my mind, dressing your age is one thing that drives your consumption satisfaction levels. There are clothes for the elderly that are fashionable according to that age. However, when a young person uses the same things, they lose their appeal and can only be defined as horrible. This is what drives me to consumption of young-age fashions.

Personality is the other factor that drives my use of clothes. I am an outgoing person who loves standing out of the crowd. Thus, I have to be descent and dressed in a manner that makes everybody love me. Product comfort is another psychological factor that drives my consumption behavior. Whenever I wear clothes, I have to feel comfortable with it in a manner that I will not be too alert not to expose myself for fear of getting hurt when walking. For instance, some clothes are too tight and too soft that chances of getting torn are quite high. In such a situation, I will not be comfortable when wearing it because I have to be too careful about protecting it. Finally, the country of origin is another factor that drives my clothes consumption behavior. I have a feeling that there are some states with better clothes than others, and since I am a person who adores fashion, I find myself attracted to those with good name and reputation.

Dior shoes are an international brand that has been on the market for years making it one of the most popular fashion shoes globally. Over the years, I have found myself being constantly attracted to this brand of shoes since there are all kinds and styles included. When I want to dress for any occasion, I have a type of shoes to wear from Dior. For instance, there are official shoes, sports, high heels, and flat shoes of all designs that I can choose. One of the major psychological elements making me consume more and more of the Dior shoes is the international recognition and popularity of the brand. I am an outgoing person who prides in being recognized whenever am with people. Therefore, I prefer to use the most popular and known items to suit my personality. Other psychological factors driving me towards the consumption of this brand of shoes include the comfort that I get from them, the feeling that one brand can serve all my needs, and the fact that this brand is internationally fashionable.
